  • Kickstand Pivot?

Okay.. I'm a noob, so of course I got a question. Well, a few months ago I went riding with a buddy of mine and I can't remember what kinda bike he had, I'm thinking its an R6. Well we went to a bike shop called Burt's over here in Cali and we both parked our bikes head first in the motorcycle parking area where there's a wall in front, so in order for you to leave you gotta back up your bike or park it backwards. Well I parked it head first so when we were about to leave I had to back it up. I'm only 5'6 so I can't actually sit on the bike and back it up too well, so what i do is leave it off and walk backwards with it while holding if from the left.I've actually only dropped my bike twice ever, both times while I wasn't even on the bike and one of the times doing this manuver. Luckily it was at a friends house and no one was around cuz it was hella embarrassing.. now to my question. As I took my time being extra careful not to drop my bike at the moto shop walking backwards, I turned around to see my buddy lean his bike on his kickstand as he used it to spin his bike around to a complete 180. I tried it myself but I saw that my kickstand wasn't as straight as his so it looked as if it was bending so I stopped. I you tubed kickstand pivot and found other bikes doing this, including one that claimed his bike was 460lbs. I was just wondering if anyone has ever done this and if its possible with the Katana. My guess is that I'm just S.O.L. cuz of the kickstand has such a curve in it that it would bend. Maybe with a different kickstand?

it can be done but with some struggle, the Katana is over 500 lbs. The stand is made of molded steel. You will eventually brake it at the pivot if you do this to much though. I haven't seen that happen yet but anything is possible.

Oh okay. Cool thanks for the replies, guess when I get more used to the weight of my Kat or whatever I might try it then and of course, don't abuse it. Thanks

That is generally a ss bike trick - our Kat's are a tad on the heavy side to be pivoting on the side stand.

I've done it once, just to see if I could. She's a heavy beast.

I thought about trying it yesterday after seeing this thread, went out to the bike and realized if I screw this up ill feel like an idiot. I also opted to stay on the safe side haha

You can try it then when it brakes, you just have to look for a wall to lean it on

It only costs $35 to lower your bike so you can touch, and not do any crazy maneuvers.

I got in a jam at bike night once, and hot young gent pivoted mine out for me : he made it look easy as hell.

I tried it once with no luck. I came real close to putting it on the ground.

It works. It was easy to do, but it kinda scares me. That kick stand looks awful skinny. I must say, if you think a Kat is heavy you should try and move something the size of that CBR 1000 Hurricane I used to have!
